Privilege

I have shared some information on my Instagram stories and my personal Facebook account but have yet to make complete post on this platform. Like many others, I have spent the last week researching, learning and growing how to become the best ally to the Black community. It’s about time this country woke up and realized the injustice of racism. We cannot stay silent anymore. What is happening now is a great step forward but we must continue to speak out, support the BLM movement, support Black owned businesses, and amplify Black voices. Keep this momentum going.

Below is some resources you can use to educate yourself-

Here is a google drive of all Black owned businesses in Boston who you can support.

But because this is a travel blog, we also need to talk about travel privilege. Travel is not accessible to everyone. I wanted to take the time to recognize the white and socio-economic privilege I have to be able to live out this dream of mine to travel the world. I grew up in an area where some families went to Disney every year. Although I was not one of those families, I can still recognize I have been given an advantage more than others to be able to plan and go on a vacation once or twice a year that others may daydream about.

So I took some time to think about how I can be a more socially conscious traveler.

  • Do your research beyond where is the best place to eat in whatever city.

  • Learn about the culture of the the people from the place you are visiting.

  • Educate yourself the history of the city.

  • Why things are there and the significance of it.

  • Go to places locally owned and talked to the owners instead of going to a chain.

  • Share your experiences and what you learned rather than just posting a picture.

The list could go on and on but overall be grateful of your experience and recognize the privilege it comes with.

Thanks for reading-

Arrivederci
